GRS Recycled Polyester

What is GRS Recycled Polyester?

GRS (Global Recycled Standard*) certified recycled polyester is made from used PET bottles. The PET bottles are melted back into its raw liquid polymer, following which the polyester fibre is made. Recycled polyester retains its quality and can be used in the same way as regular polyester to make polyester yarns and fabrics.

* The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a voluntary product standard for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials in a final product. The standard applies to the full supply chain and addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, chemical content and labelling. GRS covers processing, manufacturing, packaging, labelling, trading and distribution of all products made with a minimum of 20% recycled material.

The Switch to Recycled Fibers

Today, given the global environmental situation, a number of yarn and garment manufacturing companies in US, Europe, and in a number of other countries have switched to using GRS recycled polyester fibre. Using recycled synthetic textiles is an environmentally conscious practice, which significantly reduces plastic waste. As with natural, eco-friendly and sustainable fibers like bamboo fiber, recycled fibers such as polyester, viscose and acrylic are slowly gaining acceptance by people worldwide. This is a result of the heightened level of environmental awareness, which is leading to eco-conscious purchasing decisions, including for clothing and apparel.
